1/35 Suomi couple ! BMP-1 & MAZ-537

Looking at the dio again and again, I believe the road is just as Kalle said above, too wide.

I think I will reduce the depth of the diorama by around 10 cm again, to make a one way road only. I'll probably retain the idea of the ditches both sides.
I said it's wide, not necessarily too wide. ;) Depends on what you're looking for. The thing is that most small Finnish roads are just wide enough for two normal trucks to pass, possibly with very little margin. The road in the diorama looks wide enough for two MAZ-537's to pass comfortably and I assume they're huge.
Of course it's possible and even likely that there are some extra wide roads, for example near garrisons where heavy equipment can be seen regularly, so placing one on your diorama is not necessarily unrealistic if you wish to do so.

You might also consider ditch on one side only. In my experience they're quite common on smaller gravel roads. Just like on the pic that Esko posted earlier.
Hello,

The MAZ inside cab scratch is over. Hopefully paint will come tomorrow… cos tonight is barbecue time !

Would you mind coming for a walk on a forest road ???

;-D

More to come ! Hope you like it.

Richard
That diorama looks great with background. Just those traffic signs, and that light brown road shows that's not real scene. Right colour is some kind mixture of very light brown/-grey. Very dull colour :)

Hello,

Here's today drivers cab painting work

Tamiya's acrylics are so good that I was able to apply the washes (raw umber oil) few hours later…

Cheers,

Richard
Little update tonight.

The engine bonnet and the driver cab are both glued in place.

I worked a bit on infantry MG's
Starting from this :

I got to this … plus a typical finnish weapon I think you'll all recognize (if I did not get the shape too wrong…)

Hope you like it !

Hi,

Here are two pics I took after the painting stages the MAZ went through. The chassis was painted gloss black (looks far too clean !) and the tyres matt black with few white paint drops in the airbrush paint container.

The contrast stands out very much between chassis and tyres. This will be toned down when weathering.

Richard
Hi,

Latest news…

External flashlights and mirrors still gotta be done before the paint comes.

Hope you like it

Hi Richard,

I only build something with wings and guns, but in an aircraft modeller's eyes you've been doing a very good job, I definately like this model.

Hello guys,

I have not given-up working on the MAZ so here are some fresh news.

The kit being completed, I washed it in a soapy water bath, and primed it today, with Humbrol dark grey (I had no more light grey but that one did the trick).

Here are the rear view mirrors

And the primer layer. The pics were taken 5 minutes after the airbrush was cleaned, so some gloss areas show (the paint was not dry) while it now is a full matt primed model.

Camo's next :-D
