Isignyn testiraportista olet varmaan lukenut
“(6) In contrast to the results obtained in this test with 17pdr SABOT, in firing conducted by First U.S. Army at Balleroy on 10 July 44, 5 rounds were fired at the front plate of a Panther tank at 700 yards. Examination of pictures of this firing indicates that the first round struck the mantlet, the second between the track and the nose plate, the third at the junction of the nose and glacis and penetrated. The fourth and fifth were fair hits on the glacis and both penetrated. The conflict between these results and those obtained by the board is explained by Col. A. G. Cole, Deputy Director of Artillery, Ministry of Supply. Col. Cole witnessed part of the test and states that the ammunition lot furnished the board had not been proof fired. He further states that, in his opinion, the lot is of sub-standard manufacture and if proof fired would not have been accepted.”
“c. The 17pdr APCBC and the 76mm HVAP, T4, are both highly accurate ammunitions. In the opinion of the members of the board, two of whom have had considerable experience test firing British and American tank and antitank weapons, the 76mm HVAP, T4 is the most accurate tank or antitank ammunition encountered to date.
d. The 17pdr APCBC is more effective against the front of a Panther tank than is the 76mm HVAP, T4. Its margin of superiority is not great. Neither one can be depended upon to penetrate the glacis plate in one fair hit on average quality plate.”
76 mm HVAP taas oli erikoisammus, josta ” the Isigny tests done in early August on captured Panthers tried a small number of HVAP rounds that were flown in especially for the test. By December 1944 a small amount of 76mm and 3" HVAP was available and was being issued to TD units…”
“from the Final Report of the SHAEF AFV&W Section:
An urgent requirement for 75mm and 76mm ammunition with better penetration capabilities was forwarded to the War Department in [Cable] E-36173, dated 4 July 1944, and the best possible AP ammunition for the 90mm gun was demanded in E-36609, dated 6 July 1944. Improved ammunition for the 75mm gun was never received. Special high velocity armor piercing ammunition (HVAP) for the 3" and 76mm gun was received in extremely limited quantaties, and receipts prior to 1 March 1945 were less than two rounds per gun per month…”
& “I think I answered the question as best as it can be answered without going through each battalion's G-4 Journal (those that still exist, most battalion records retained consist of the Unit AAR/History and sometimes the G-3 Journal). On average, from probably late August 1944 and beginning with the TD units, there was about 2 rounds-per-gun-per-month available. After March 1945 that average was probably closer to 3 and they were generally available to all units equipped with 3" and 76mm guns.” Lainaukset Richard Andersonilta saadusta infosta.
“The development of the M93 APCR-T ammo gave the 76mm gun even more penetration power and the ability to destroy German tanks at even greater ranges. This ammo became available to the Tank Destroyer units in August 1944. US tankers in M4s were not supposed to be able to get the new ammo but many tank crews bargained and bartered with TD crews and ordinance supply personnel to get a few of these precious rounds. By the end of the war these rounds had become more common and almost every crew had at least a couple in case of an encounter with a heavy German tank."

Bird and Livingston Armor and Gunneryn mukaan sakujen 55-80 mm valssattu panssariteräksen kovuus oli 1943 – 1944 266-309 BHN:ää.
