Samuli on mielestäni ihan oikeilla jäljillä. Silti maailmalla maalaamatta jättäminen on ihan yleistä scratch -mallien osalta. Arvostelukriteereissämme on pyritty ottamaan huomioon kumpikin lähestymistapa.

Scratch- mallien kohdalla tilanne on täysin toinen.

Construction 45% (80% if unpainted)
Painting 35% (0 if unpainted)
Difficulty 10%
Presentation 10%

Painoarvo muuttuu rakentamisen suuntaan rajusti.
Hyvä juttu, tämän halusinkin kuulla :)

Harva scratch malli on täysin 100% itse rakennettu.

1. "NC:n tavassa esim. lentokoneita arvioidaan seuraavilla painoarvoilla:
a) rakennustekniikka 20%
b) Pintakäsittely 60%
c) Vaikeusaste 10%
d) Esillepano 10%"

Mikäs on automalleissa? Pintakäsittely tuskin on noin suuressa osassa, vai korvaako maalaus tuon pintakäsittelyn.

Niille on ihan omat kisansa kuten esim. Model Expo.

Judging criteria explained

Each class in the competition has its own judging criteria. The percent weights give the competitors and judges an idea on what basis entries are judged. Judges should not try to give points to the entries based on the criteria; just keep them in minding when evaluating merits of the entries.

Construction

With construction we mean building. If there are basic mistakes in the construction, like open seams, sprue cuts, mould lines, sink marks, sanding or filing marks, glue stains, poor alignment of of parts etc. these should clearly reduce the value of the model. Particularly a gold medal entry should be free of even the tiniest blemish in construction.

Painting

In painting the technical aspects of painting of the entry are evaluated. The judges should pay special attention to airbrush spatter and overspray, brushmarks, hairs, dust and fingerprints, decal alignment, sit and edges and decal silvering and damage. Any faults in any of the above should reduce the value of the entry. In addition, judges should pay special attention to the correctness of special effects like water and oil stains both in look (should they be matt, satin or gloss?) and location.

Difficulty

In assessing difficulty the judges should try to estimate how much effort has been needed to build and paint the entry in question. In general, the bigger the scale the more effort is needed in order to achieve a good result. When assessing two scratch built entries the one where more work has been needed should be given priority given the same quality of workmanship.

Presentation

Presentation is by and large equal to the general appearance of the entry. If the competitor adds a base to the entry it becomes an essential part of the model and should support the entry. If the entry does not “fit” to the base e.g. the ground work is rudimentary and vegetation unnatural, this will have a negative impact to the presentation even if the base in itself is not subject to judging. The overall effect that an entry creates is highly subjective and elusive quality that cannot be easily defined. A good competitor tries to achieve a “feeling of life” to the model that spectators and judges can appreciate.

Construction & anatomy

This criterion applies only to scratch built and converted figurines. In a scratch built figurine the anatomy of the body and proportions should be realistic and natural. Any shortcomings in this respect should decrease the value of the model. Construction of the model assess how well the conversion or scratch work has been done and should be very similar to evaluating construction in any other class.

Difficulty & animation

This criterion applies only to scratch built and converted figurines. In assessing animation judges should try to determine how natural movement or pose of a figurine is. For example it is not easy to build a running figurine where the animation looks correct. This should also be taken into account when assessing the level of difficulty of a figurine e.g. a figurine in movement is usually more difficult to build than a stationary one.

Message

Message criterion applies only to vignettes and dioramas. A good message may be self evident to anyone who watches a diorama or vignette or it may be something that takes a while to grasp, but it is something that anyone can understand.

Composition

Composition criterion applies to vignettes and dioramas. Composition answers to question how well the builder has managed to use the space of the vignette or diorama, how well the different components interact and how pleasing the proportions are. A good example on how composition is created is classical painting where usually three persons form a triangle. Several of these triangles maybe imbedded in the painting if there are several characters presented.
