EC-725 Caracal 1/32 (scratch)build log

Hello,

It is a long time since I have not been posting here, so I will show you what I currently have on my workbench.

It is a huge scratch conversion I started, needing two kits of Matchbox / Revell SA330 Puma in 1/32nd.

Here we go :

The dashboard

First fuselage surgery step

Cockpit arrangement (no glued parts yet)

Armor protected cockpit seats

Windows and doors are different on the Caracal so they need to be opened…

New approximate future profile in red.

The blue writing says "cuttin doors and opening windows"

Metal (aluminium) cab floor progress

Fuel tanks stoppers

Here we go with da cab ceiling

Fuslage foot holes

At last, a family pic…

And I could not stop this w/o showing you I have still worked on the ceiling

Ceiling details

Left fuselage console

Side armor plates for gunners. Masked ceiling neon lights

Right cab console, still missing some instruments to be added

Armor plate is positioned for the picture

Pearls are "pushed" a little more in the ceiling than before

The floor AWA the roof are now attached to the left fuselage half :

Then here you are with a mandatory device in the EC725 cab while on duty …

Then you got the mech seat, moving forward and rear on rails. It came from the Revell 1/32 EC-145 kit, barely identical to the one I needed. It was a spare in the box per the EC145 cab version I plan :

Then an electronics board where are gathered all the necessary controls, screens, to service the ECM/flares devices :

Front

Side

Then come the side MG stands. The machine guns on the pic is an infantry MG, will have to undergo lotsa changes to depict a FN MAG 58, but the base is sound. The plasticard hamburger is the basic beginning for the MG casings tray

Then do come the work on the ammo boxes racks…

0.25 and 0.5 mm plasticard as a raw mat :

Assembly

After glueing them I had to test fit the ammo boxes themselves.

Blend "skull white" and "chaos black" from Citadel colors to paint the racks grey and boxes black :

Hereunder is the result

Place trial…

Seems to be Ok, huh ?

That is a lot of pics, hope you enjoy it

Just feel free to leave your comments,

Best regards,

Richard
Looking good! :) It's always nice to see some scratchbuilt details instead of pre-painted etc. photoetch parts.
I have to quote Darth Vader: "Impressive, most impressive" :)
Hi,

I am glad you enjoy !

I just saw I made an error when posting and the thread was sent twice… Sorry about that. May the webmaster remove one of them, please ?

Cheers,

Richard

Of course. Just like yours "Raatteentie"-diorama. ;)

Richard, how much did you pay for that Revell's Puma?

PS. I am very sorry if you don't understand my english. :( I'm not very good at it.
To Juho, I bought the two kits on ebay, that made the price much lower than what could be in hobby shops. I remember it was round 30 euro each. Do not worry about your english, it's ok I understand everything. And I should apologize instead of you, cuz I am the stranger visiting you in English. But that is a nice language to share models with you, for it works !!!!

To Kristian, I cannot really say… The project was started in 2007 after "Le Bourget" airshow near Paris, that is when I really had a shock and made up my mind ! I may say approximately about 10 full days have already been spent, meaning some 240 hours…

Thank you for showing interest in this build.

Best regards,

Richard
Hi,

I have recently worked a little on one of the the machine guns MAG58 (from a Dragon 1/35 FN L7A2).

About thirty (yes, 30) scratched parts were added.

Here is the basic part :

Now I have to build the one on the opposite side…

Cheers,

Richard
Looks very challenging, but you have managed it. Nice work and details! Keep those photos coming!
