Wolf and UAZ FDF Jeeps?

Hi all,

Can you tell me when did the Mercedes Wolf first entered service within the Finnish Defence Forces ? Here's an example of a German Wolf

What about the Russian UAZ entrance date in the FDF ?

I really get interested in the armed forces of your country and its AFVs / vehicles, for sure I will make 1/35 dioramas / builds upon the FDF.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Richard
Hi Richard!

FDF-pages tells that those Geländewagens entered service first time at 1995.
Our defense forces also have older Geländewagens made by Daimler-Steyr-Puch, with semi-automatic transmission. Like this one:

I think those Puchs are older than Mercedes.

There is also information about UAZs, that those entered service at 1988.

It's nice to hear that you're interested about our armed forces, I hope you get the exact information.
If somebody has better info/corrections, please tell.
Thank you very much Antti !

Have a look at these Wolves :

Nice pictures, thanks!
Personally I'm more interested about aviation, than AFVs and other ground vehicles, but I have one Military Wheels 1:35 UAZ, what is going to be Finnish, when its time comes.
I wonder why FDF website claims that UAZ 469 has first been used in 1988. They were quite common at least on early 80's. Since UAZ 469 was first built in 1965 in Soviet Union, I'd say they have been first used in FDF on late 70's rather than late 80's. I served in the armed forces 1983-1984 and at least then UAZ 469 was already in use.
In 1992-1994 when I served in UNIFIL, Lebanon we had several Peugeot P4's which have same chassis as MB Wolf. Anyway, I think they were UN, not Finnish property.
Maybe the UAZ on FDF- website presents newer version than older 469? Just thinking.
According to this book the first UAZ 469's came in 1976 and there was one in tests as early as 1974.
Hi,

Wow !!! Very good news !!!

Thinking about a UAZ 469 alongside the MAZ-537 diorama hauling either a BMP-1 or an Itpsv 90 Marksman…
Might be a huge diorama, huh ?

Wait'n see… Still thinking…

You'll be the first to know when my 1/35 FDF project comes out !

Thank you for your help !

Best regards,

Richard
I guess discussion has been mainly on UAZ "Cabriolet". Do you know if there is a model on the market about "purkki" UAZ (= tin can UAZ = UAZ van)? I have fond memories of purkki UAZ from the days back at the military. Before the army I thought stories about a hand crank starting car were legend (as well as stories about suksisulkeiset, or drill with skis). If you are making a diorama about UAZ, why don't you put a soldier to start an UAZ by turning hand crank. :)
Yes, Military Wheels has 1/35 model of UAZ 469, I haven't saw any models of UAZ van, or pulla-UAZ (bun-UAZ) as I've hearded to name it. I think the MW UAZ is the only kit available? It's quite well detailed, but needs lots of sanding and putty. I have thinking to make a small diorama with a broken down or overheated UAZ with a cursing finnish private trying desperately to fix it :D
